Polders, dikes, floodplains, old villages and a river that keeps the time. Around the Veerhuis there is little to plan. Walk, cycle, swim, explore the surroundings, or simply sit still and watch the day go by.

The morning
The dike is still empty and the first sun rises over the polders. Walk along the Waal, cycle through the floodplains, or head out towards the surrounding villages. Slowly, quietly, the landscape comes to life.

The midday
Climb the Dikke Toren of Varik and look out over the Waal region. Wander the Heesseltsche floodplains, where horses and cattle graze and in spring godwits and lapwings settle. Or, on warm days, take to the water in one of the floodplain pools.

The late afternoon
Back to the Veerhuis. A book in the garden, a glass of wine on the terrace, or one more walk along the dike. The light softens, and the river changes with it.

The evening
The sun sinks behind the Waal and the sky slowly turns red. Perhaps this is the most beautiful moment of the day. Just sitting, watching, and nothing to do.
